Grain Harvest in 2008: a New Look at Old Problems

On the 9th of September 2008 the Company of Strategic Communications Publicity Creating held out a press conference in the news agency Ukrainian News. The leading experts in the field of agriculture discussed results of the harvest in 2008. Discussion, was attended by: Vitaly Skotsyk - the CEO of AMACO, and Yuri Karasyk - the General Director of JSC "Plemzavod Agro-Region.

In 2008, for the first time in 17 years of Ukraine, have collected more than 48 million tons of grain (already trashed over today), 43 million tons, not including corn and sunflower.

Although, there are good yields in 2008 and attractive perspectives of Ukrainian agriculture, certain problems of the national agriculture has been highlighted due to the global food crisis.

Experts marked that for development of agriculture in Ukraine it is important to do the following: to increase in export, to increase in investments, to build an infrastructure (grain and processing facilities), livestock development. The government should support farmers to allocate per hectare of land, rather than separately on fertilizers, on peas etc. Experts believe that the general government measures to support agricultural sector is timely and effective, especially the abolition of export quotas and the support of livestock.

Experts marked that in order to make agriculture profitable business, it is important to increase investments and to provide new technologies into Ukrainian agriculture.
